As you can see the shower room was looking somewhat dated and in need of updating. The shower tray was only 800mm x 800mm with a stud wall blocking a large portion of the light entering from the window. The extractor fan was rather strangely fitted in the window and also disconnected.
This created problems of its own causing a build-up of moisture residue in the cubicle as there was no effective air movement. In addition to this there was a rather precarious step to be negotiated when entering and leaving your shower.
The main challenge during this job was getting the shower tray as low to the floor as possible. This meant running the shower waste under the floor and away, not as easy as it would appear as there was only an 80mm gap between the floor upstairs and ceiling downstairs. An ultra low profile fast flow shower waste is a wonderful thing.
After the 1000mm x 900mm low level shower tray was installed the plumbing was first fixed and towel rail pipes boxed in, the room was tiled using bal white star waterproof tile adhesive & bal limestone grout. The floor was then over boarded with 6mm ply fixed with screws at 200mm centers & covered with slate effect vinyl flooring, sealed around the outside with a translucent mastic bead to keep any spills on the vinyl.
The Extractor problem was solved by installing a fam light, an excellent product combining an inline extractor fan with a low voltage halogen down lighter complete with chrome or white bezel. The unit extracts at a rate of 85 cubic mitres per hour thus keeping any condesation residue to a minimum.
Installed Items
WC Pan and close coupled dual flush cistern from the Tavistock Micra range as is the wall hung basin and semi pedestal. Minimalist basin mixer tap. 1000mm x 900mm low profile shower tray complete with fast flow waste. Chrome concealed thermostatic shower mixer valve. Chrome riser rail and three position varispray shower head and fan light extractor. The Shower screen is due for imminent delivery, this had to be customer made and scribed because of the ceiling beams running up from the outside wall. It is being manufactured and toughened so far the supplier has lost two due to cracking in the toughening process. Watch this space for the finished pics.
